ESME online courses are short, introductory level programmes and are not formally accredited. A single module has an indicative completion time of 8-10 hours and a full course (6 modules plus assessment) will take the average learner 80-100 hours to complete. In the UK this equates to the workload required to earn around around 8-10 formal university credits and a PGCert usually requires a full year of study to obtain 60 credits. To give you an idea of the depth of study required, Dundee University accept ESME online as 10 credits towards their PGCert in medical education via accreditation of prior experiential learning, provided the learner can demonstrate the application of their learning.
While the course is not formally accredited, completion of four ESME courses leads to award of the AMEE-ESME Specialist certificate, which is globally recognised as a measure of educational scholarship.
